Saint Vincent Hospital Earns Get With The Guidelines Quality Achievement Silver Plus Award for Stroke Care

Saint Vincent Hospital has received a Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Achievement Silver Plus Award for successfully using evidence-based guidelines to provide the best possible care to stroke patients through the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines® program.  Saint Vincent Hospital and 789 other hospitals were featured in a special advertisement in the "America's Best Hospitals" issue of US News & World Report (August 31, 2011) to commemorate their receipt of Get With The Guidelines Performance Achievement Awards.

To receive this award, Saint Vincent Hospital achieved at least 12 consecutive months of 85% or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality indicators, and achieved at least 75% or higher compliance with 6 of 10 Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality Measures during that same period of time.  These measures include aggressive use of medications, such as TPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs and smoking cessation, all aimed at reducing death and disability and improving the lives of stroke patients.
