SAINT VINCENT HOSPITAL
Dishes Up Just What The Doctor Ordered With New Restaurant-Style
Spice Café
Worcester, MA. (October 17, 2006) – Saint Vincent Hospital and their food service partner, Morrison Healthcare Food Services, reinvent the typical hospital cafeteria with The Spice Café, a healthy culinary experience similar to what diners typically find in high-end restaurants.
Made to order entrees are not something most would expect in a hospital, changing the traditional perception of hospital food as bland and boring when Saint Vincent Hospital’s new Spice Café opens on October 17, 2006 with a ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m.
“A variety of fresh foods offering just the right dose of healthy options giving our hospital staff and guests a choice for every meal period are prepared daily by our chefs. Mustard Glazed Pork Tenderloin with Caramelized Apples, Ginger Barbequed Chicken Breast, and Grilled Mahi Mahi with Avocado Salsa are just a few of the savory selections diners enjoy from the Spice Café venues featuring Italian, Chinese, Mexican and American cuisine.”
Making healthy selections for breakfast, lunch or dinner is an easy prescription for guests to fill with the Spice Café Balanced Choices® program.
“Balanced Choices® highlights foods that contribute to better health and follows recommended dietary guidelines,” explains Andrea Gorman, Clinical Nutrition Manager. “If you want to eat healthy, you can make an informed decision by choosing Balanced Choices® menu items labeled with nutrient content and offer foods lower in calories, fat and sodium as well as vegetarian options.”
The Spice Café culinary team prides itself in satisfying both the nutritional and emotional needs of hospital guests and employees.
“The Spice Café transforms our cafeteria into a restaurant-style culinary experience,” explains Arthur St. Germain, Director of Business Development at Saint Vincent Hospital. “The cuisines are varied, healthy and delicious and the environment is an inviting escape from the stress and high-paced hospital environment. Hospital staff re-energize without the hustle and bustle of the medical community, while hospital guests escape the stress surrounding their loved ones illness.”
A primary goal with The Spice Café is to create a relaxing and trendy environment and offer caring service to customers.
“The flooring, lighting, and up-scale food displays give The Spice Café a trendy marketplace feel, very pleasing to all the senses. It’s definitely not your typical hospital cafeteria,“ explains Michael Svagdis, president of Morrison Healthcare Food Services. “But, it’s our culinary team of professionals that really makes the difference. They have a lot of pride in what they do and it is reflected in the customer service they provide.”
