Admitting Department

The Admitting Department is usually your first stop on the way to a scheduled test, procedure or surgery. Your physician has called to schedule a test or procedure for you. You are asked to contact Saint Vincent Hospital Admitting to pre-register for your test or procedure. This information should answer most of your questions regarding what the Admitting Department will ask or require you to provide. You are always welcome to call in advance of a scheduled test, procedure or surgery if you have questions.

We have two admissions departments for your convenience. Our main admission department is located on the 3rd floor Suite 310 in the South area of our facility and we also have a second admitting office Suite 354 on the North side of the 3rd floor as well. You can access the 3rd floor of the facility from our Parking Garage. Take the Garage elevator to the 3rd level. Enter the facility at the greeter stations and proceed to Suite 310 or Suite 354 which ever is most convenient.

Admitting Information

Saint Vincent Hospital Admissions Department wants to ensure that each patient's hospital visit is as comfortable as possible and that all patients receive the best possible care. This guide offers information to facilitate the admission and pre-admission processes.

Hospital admissions can sometimes be confusing, and a review of this information should help. If there is else anything the hospital staff can do to help, please ask.

Insurance review

Before registering for admission to the hospital, patients should review their health-plan booklets and contact their health plans to clarify specific benefits and/or requirements. This would include pre-certification. To protect patients from having their bills denied for failure to pre-certify, it is essential that patients determine if their health plan requires pre-certification. If so, patients should follow through with the health plan.

Insurance card and wrist band

It's important that patients bring their current health-insurance cards with them when registering. The admissions representative will ask patients for their cards and will photocopy them. Upon registration, patients receive wrist bands to ensure they receive, and are billed for, the care they need.

Forms

Patients are asked to sign a variety of forms. Those include a form regarding the release of medical records to the patient's insurer and insurance benefits to the hospital. Patients are also asked to sign a form indicating they have been provided information about the hospital's privacy and advance-directive policies.

Advance directives

It's worth every patient's while to consider his or her advance directive for health care long before he or she is admitted to the hospital. This formal, written document describes what and what not medical procedures a patient wishes to receive should they not be able to make medical decisions themselves. Advance directives identify which family member or friend will communicate the patient's wishes to the hospital staff. Community members may call the hospital medical record department or go to the hospital web site at any time to obtain a copy.

Preadmission

For most scheduled procedures patients are pre-admitted by telephone. Most paperwork is taken care of at this stage. However, when pre-admitted patients arrive at the hospital, they should present themselves to the Admissions Department staff for wrist bands and last-minute details.

Co-pays and deposits

As a routine practice, the hospital collects co-pays and deposits as patients register for services.

Admission Services

The admissions department is available to assist patients and/or their family members and answer any questions regarding registration or pre-admission information.
