General Surgery
All aspects of general surgical procedures are offered at Saint Vincent Hospital, including colorectal, hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, and oncologic surgery. In the past several years, there has been significant emphasis on minimally invasive surgical procedures, including advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery, with laser capabilities. The surgical staff has considerable experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic cholecystectomy, common bile duct explorations, appendectomy, colectomy, adrenalectomy, nephrectomy, Nissen fundoplication and other procedures, in addition to expanded clinical research in the area to develop new products and techniques in order to allow Saint Vincent Hospital to serve as a major resource center for this form of surgery. Saint Vincent Hospital is also a Level II Trauma Center and it provides care for penetrating as well as blunt injuries with a dedicated Trauma Team composed of general surgeons, a trauma coordinator, Emergency Room physicians, surgical residents, respiratory therapists, anesthesiologists, etc. The operating room is equipped and prepared to take any trauma victim immediately upon his/her arrival to the Emergency Room twenty-four hours a day.
