Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics consists of an eight-bed inpatient unit, a nursery with 33 bassinets and a level 2 special care nursery with 8 bassinets. The inpatient service admits patients of all ages who may be admitted to either the Pediatric Service, the Medicine Service, or one of the Surgical Services. Families are encouraged to stay with their children and great attention is given to the psychosocial support of the hospitalized child. The Newborn Service provides 24 hour in-house pediatric coverage to the nursery and delivery room. The nursery manages over 2,000 neonates per year admitted by over 70 community pediatricians and family practitioners. The department actively supports the pediatric services of the Emergency Department, providing consultation and backup for the emergency medicine and pediatric physicians. The department presently does not have any residents.
