Pulmonary/Allergy
Experts in the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases, the physicians in this division provide inpatient and outpatient services that focus on the management of individuals with a range of disorders, especially asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. These physicians perform invasive procedures such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy in order to diagnose patients with acute and chronic illnesses of the lower respiratory tract. Moreover, because of their advanced training, these doctors are also certified in critical care medicine and consequently, they treat acutely ill patients admitted to the intensive care units at the hospital. The division oversees an allergy and tuberculosis program, and it is very active in clinical research, with a focus on asthma and pneumonia. Finally, under the direction of these physicians, Saint Vincent Hospital operates a modern pulmonary function and blood gas laboratory, and the institution provides comprehensive respiratory care services.
