Volunteer Department
Department of Volunteer and Guest Services
A volunteer is a person who is a light to others, who remembers to do the things to make other people happy, who takes the loneliness out of the alone by talking with them, who is concerned when others are unconcerned, who has the courage to be a prophet and whose charity is fidelity.
Volunteering at Saint Vincent Hospital has been a long-standing tradition, one that we are very proud of. Our student volunteers and senior volunteers work side by side with Hospital staff and are involved in almost every department at Saint Vincent Hospital. We presently have 270 volunteers that work in 50 departments throughout our very busy Hospital giving approximately 3,200 hours annually.
Student volunteers consist of high school and college students from Worcester and surrounding area schools. These students work in the Cath Lab, Center for Women & Infants, Emergency Department, Dialysis, Radiology, Department of Medicine, to only name a few of the many departments in which they volunteer.
Senior volunteers contribute many service hours performing clerical functions, greeting patients, patient scheduling, filing, pulling charts, escorting patients in wheelchairs and assisting patients and family members with directions. Senior volunteers also participate in the “Booster Buddy” and “Cuddler” programs in the Center for Women and Infants. The Volunteer and Guest Services Department also works closely with the Retired Senior Volunteer Persons (RSVP), an organization made up of retired professionals.
Volunteers add a very special dimension to healthcare. They give their time, compassion and devotion. Gifts that go beyond words…thank you never seems enough for all they bring to Saint Vincent Hospital.
