Arrhythmias are abnormal rhythms that cause the heart to beat too fast (tachycardia) or too slow (bradycardia) and to pump blood less effectively. Caused by either a disruption of the normal electrical system of the heart or heart disease, arrhythmias affect millions worldwide. In the U.S., some arrhythmias are the main cause of sudden cardiac death, accounting for more than 400,000 deaths each year.
Join Dr. Douglas Laidlaw, cardiologist at Saint Vincent Hospital, as he explores the causes and diagnoses of arrhythmias, medical treatment options, and lifestyle changes to get your heart back on track.
Douglas Laidlaw, M.D., received his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania; he also completed two fellowships at Tufts Medical Center in Cardiovascular Diseases and in Electrophysiology/Pacing. He is board certified in Cardiovascular Diseases and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
