Healthcare Professionals
Dumphy Memorial Library
The John J. Dumphy Memorial Library provides healthcare information for employees, staff members, and affiliates of Saint Vincent Hospital. In addition to patient care, we support education, research, and management/administrative decision-making. Patients and their families may also use the library during normal business hours. If possible, a brief call in advance will confirm for non-staff users that the librarian will be available to assist them.

Book and Journal Collection

We have a clinically focused collection of about 75 journals, most of which are kept for 15 years. Journals must be used in the library. The books in our circulating collection may be checked-out by employees and staff members.

Services

The library provides a number of services to assist users in not only finding, but also obtaining, materials. Using either our print collection or one of the many databases or electronic resources we have available, library users can identify specific books and journal articles to answer their questions. Many of these resources are available for staff use via computers throughout the hospital as well as remotely from home or office. Employees and staff may access these resources using their Citrix account.

For consumers, we have a selection of both print and electronic resources available in the hospital library. In addition, we work closely with other area consumer health libraries to provide health information that is meaningful.

Searching may be done by library users themselves, if they wish. Library staff is available to assist as needed. If preferred, the library staff can perform the search. In addition, the library staff will provide database training for employees and staff. Please call for an appointment.

Once identified, the materials can be copied if they are in our own collection. If they are not in our library, we have cooperative arrangements with libraries and document suppliers around the world to help.

Hours

The library is staffed Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 am until 4:30 pm; and Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. After-hours access is available for employees and staff members by means of a programmed I-disc or by contacting the security department.

Location

The library is located on the second floor of the South end of the hospital at 123 Summer Street Worcester, MA 01608.
