Pitcher, former patient, and now pain-free Dad—thanks to Saint Vincent Hospital

It's hard to keep your head in the game when you've got pain on your mind. Just ask Matt Weagle, a former pitcher for the Saint Louis Cardinals and, more recently, the Tornadoes—a professional baseball team in Worcester, MA.
Matt developed pain in his shoulder and lower back due to the repetitive motion of throwing hard, fast pitches day after day. When it started to interfere with his performance, he turned to the staff at Saint Vincent Hospital—the official team doctors of the Tornadoes.
One of the first things Matt noticed about the staff is the way they treat every patient on a case-by-case basis. "I really appreciated the way they took the time to get to know me and my playing background. They wanted to know what my goals were and how I operate. And because they did, I was able to achieve my goal—which was to be able to play the following season."
The staff's individualized approach also carried over into Matt's rehab, which he received right at the hospital. "They designed therapy for my unique needs. And I really appreciate how they pushed me and were constantly pulling for me. Their positive attitude and personal attention helped me get back on the mound faster."
Ultimately, Matt underwent surgery at Saint Vincent Hospital for both his lower back and shoulder. Both surgeries were met with exceptional results and today he can throw and catch without pain.
According to Matt, "I got such great results at Saint Vincent Hospital, I could have played another season of baseball." But instead, he decided to shift his priorities and focus on his new favorite pastime—holding and spending time with his newborn daughter.
