Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC)

The Saint Vincent Hospital Patient Family Advisory Council was implemented to support our goal of providing Patient-Centered Care.  Designed as a forum for both patients and their family members, the Council provides feedback on hospital care and experiences and offers suggestions and ideas for service improvements and operational change.

Mission Statement:  The Saint Vincent Hospital Patient Advisory Council provides a forum through which patients and families can share feedback, suggestions and ideas to continuously improve quality and patient care experiences.

Vision Statement:  Saint Vincent Hospital is committed to a partnership with patients, families and community members to enhance the services provided by Saint Vincent Hospital to the community we serve.  Patients and family members will provide ongoing input regarding patients' needs and their experience as patients of Saint Vincent Hospital.  Input from PFAC members will be integrated in ongoing process improvement efforts. 

The Council met for the first time in May 2010.  During this meeting the members reviewed both the Saint Vincent Hospital Patient Handbook and the Admitting Folder.  Their feedback helped us to identify some distribution stumbling blocks as well as some staff education needs.  As a result of this initial meeting, steps have been taken to help correct these problems.

At future meetings, members will be asked to review the current visitor policy and to provide feedback -- from both the patient and family points of view -- as to which visiting hours and regulations would best meet our patients' needs.
