Leadership and Quality

Saint Vincent Hospital is proud of its ability to provide the highest quality of patient care.

Under the leadership of Dr. Robert M. Bojar, Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, our surgical results have been outstanding and have exceeded the expected results for our patient population. Our risk-adjusted operative mortality rates (in-hospital and 30-day) determined by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons   database, were 1.5% for 2003 and fell to 1.4% for 2004. For the first 8 months of 2005, the operative mortality for coronary bypass surgery has been less than 1%. Equally impressive, since Dr. Bojar’s arrival in March 2002, the operative mortality for valve surgery and combined valve-coronary bypass surgery has been less than 2%.

Dr. Bojar and his surgical team offer a full range of cardiac surgical services, including coronary bypass grafting with internal mammaries, endoscopic saphenous vein and endoscopic radial artery harvesting, valve  repair and replacements, repair of aortic dissections and thoracic aortic aneurysms, arrhythmia surgery, cardiac tumors, adult congenital open-heart operations, and pericardiectomies.

Due to of our relationship with Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, we are able to offer patients with advanced congestive heart failure and other high-risk situations the options of left ventricular assist deivces and cardiac transplantation
