Saint Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center is a 350 bed, tertiary care, community teaching hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts. The hospital serves not only the greater Worcester area (approximately 235,000 population) but also Worcester County at large (population approximately 650,000), and referrals from out of state.

The Saint Vincent Hospital Podiatric Surgical Residency Program is a PMSR/RRA accredited program by the CPME. The residents work closely with over 20 podiatric surgeons as well as foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons who typically offer over 30 cases per week. The residents operate at different surgical sites located within three miles of Saint Vincent Hospital including UMass Memorial Medical Center and Worcester Surgical Center. As a Level 1 Trauma Center UMass Memorial Medical Center leads to ample numbers in reconstructive and trauma cases. As a resident you begin operating right away and do not "double scrub" cases.

  • Dennis Claire, DPM: a graduate of Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine graduated Saint Vincent Hospital's PM&S-36 in 2011.  He went on to practice at Shoreline Foot and Ankle Center in CT.

  • Essam Khedr, DPM: a graduate of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine graduated Saint Vincent Hospital's PM&S-36 in 2010. He went on to private practice based out of Athol Hospital in Massachusetts.

  • Donald Pelto, DPM: a graduate of the William M. School College of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Pelto graduated from Saint Vincent Hospital's PM&S-36 in 2009. He went on to practice for Central Mass Podiatry in Worcester Massachusetts.

  • Robert Grondin, DPM: a graduate of the Temple School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Grondin was the first graduate of Saint Vincent Hospital's new PM&S-36 in 2008 and went on to practice for Central Mass Podiatry in Worcester Massachusetts.

  • Julie Shaheen, DPM: a graduate of the Temple School of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Shaheen graduated Saint Vincent Hospital's PSR-24 residency program in 2008 and went on to private practice in Exeter New Hampshire.

  • Anthony Tickner, DPM: a graduate of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Tickner graduated from Saint Vincent Hospital's PSR-24 program in 2006 and went on to open his private practice in Hudson Massachusetts.

  • Miranda Goodale, DPM: a graduate of the Dr. William M. School College of Podiatric Medicine graduated from Saint Vincent Hospital in 2005. She went on to open her own private practice, Clay County Podiatry, in Brazil, Indiana.

The residents work closely with over 20 podiatric surgeons as well as foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons who typically offer over 30 cases per week. The residents operate at different surgical sites located within three miles of Saint Vincent Hospital including UMass Memorial Medical Center and Worcester Surgical Center. 

In addition to surgical exposure our residency program ensures residents receive appropriate levels of clinical preparedness. There are two clinic days spent with foot and ankle orthopedics at UMass Memorial and as a third year a one on one podiatry clinic for you and one Reliant Medical Group Attending. Academics are greatly emphasized at this residency. There is a monthly journal club which covers a wide variety of topics. We have a monthly Anatomy Lab, monthly surgical board review, M&M and book review.  We also have a wound care center with HBO therapy.

The residents rotate through a wide range of rotations. First year residents rotate through Radiology, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Vascular Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Pathology. Second year residents rotate through Infectious Disease, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, and Behavioral Medicine. House officers receive an extensive range of benefits through the Saint Vincent Hospital.
