For patients planning a trip to Saint Vincent Hospital’s Emergency Department for immediate treatment, one of our triage nurses will evaluate you on arrival to ensure patients with the most critical medical issues receive care first.

Our Rapid Medical Evaluation (RME) service allows us to care for mildly ill patients quickly — usually within 30 minutes — and is available from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

ER Evaluation and Treatment Process

Once you arrive at the ER, wait times are determined by the urgency of your condition. Unless transported by ambulance, patients are seen and registered in the order they arrive.  Once your condition has been evaluated, you will be placed into a priority queue based on the severity of your symptoms. Please be advised that the order may shift as new patients with more severe symptoms arrive at the ER.

Between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., we also have a Rapid Medical Evaluation service staffed by a Physician Assistant to help mildly ill patients move through the ER within 30 minutes.

We see more than 60,000 patients a year at Saint Vincent Hospital’s Emergency Department. Our goal is to provide the quickest possible “Door-to-Doctor” treatment times for you and your family.

No one likes to wait when they are in pain, but what is worse is not knowing how long you will have to wait.
