Additional Services
- UroLift® System
A minimally invasive, one-time treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Tiny implants lift excess prostate tissue away from the urethra, which helps restore normal urine flow and provides immediate symptom relief. - Cystoscopic Procedures
Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for bladder and urethral conditions. A small lens inserted through the urethra allows your doctor to examine and treat issues within the urinary tract. - Endourologic Procedures
Used to diagnose and treat urinary stones. If stones are detected, your urologist will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs. - Kidney Surgery
Performed to treat severely damaged or diseased kidneys. Our surgeons specialize in laparoscopic techniques designed to minimize risks and expedite recovery. - Urodynamic Procedures
Tests that evaluate bladder and urethral function to diagnose urinary incontinence and other lower urinary tract symptoms, guiding effective treatment. - Robotic Laparoscopic Partial/Radical Nephrectomy
Advanced robotic-assisted surgery to remove part or all of a kidney affected by disease, offering precision and faster recovery. - Cryotherapy
A targeted treatment for kidney cancer. Small needles deliver cold gas to freeze and destroy cancer cells. - MRI Fusion Biopsy
Combines MRI imaging with real-time ultrasound to create a 3D view of the prostate, improving accuracy in detecting cancer. - Robotic Prostatectomy
A minimally invasive procedure using robotic technology and a laparoscope to remove the prostate with enhanced precision and reduced recovery time. - SpaceOAR™ Hydrogel
An absorbable gel that creates temporary space between the prostate and rectum during radiation therapy for prostate cancer, reducing radiation exposure to the rectum and preserving function. - Fiducial Markers
Tiny markers are placed in the body to guide accurate targeting during surgery or radiation therapy. - Bulkamid Urethral Injection
A minimally invasive treatment for female stress urinary incontinence using small injections to restore urethral support. - Sacral Neurostimulation
An implant that gently stimulates sacral nerves to improve bladder control and reduce symptoms of overactive bladder. - Prostate Surgery
Performed to treat an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer. At Saint Vincent Hospital, we use minimally invasive robotic techniques, which may offer fewer risks and faster recovery compared to traditional surgery. - Botox®
While commonly known for cosmetic use, Botox is also an effective treatment for overactive bladder (OAB), especially when oral medications haven’t worked. This therapy relaxes the bladder wall muscles, reducing involuntary contractions and helping prevent the urgent “gotta go” feeling. - Penile Implant
A penile prosthesis is a treatment option for men who cannot achieve or maintain an erection and have not responded to oral medications. It may also be recommended for men with Peyronie’s disease, a condition that causes curvature of the penis. This procedure offers a reliable solution for restoring sexual function.
We specialize in minimally invasive procedures such as the da Vinci® prostatectomy and other advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic surgeries.
Saint Vincent Hospital also offers laser lithotripsy, which uses ultrasound to break up kidney stones without surgery. In addition, we’re home to major clinical research, which allows our patients to benefit from new products and techniques in the area of urological surgery.
What Is Urology?
Urology focuses on the urinary tracts of men and women, as well as the male reproductive system. Multiple organs are covered by urology, including:
- Kidneys
Kidney health can be affected by issues such as stones, cysts, infections, chronic kidney disease, acute kidney failure, and kidney cancer. Common symptoms include producing very little or excessive urine, cloudy or bloody urine, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, and other warning signs. - Adrenal Glands
Urologists can diagnose and manage disorders such as Cushing’s Syndrome, Hyperaldosteronism, Pheochromocytoma/Paraganglioma and Addison’s Disease. Common symptoms include high blood pressure, muscle and bone weakness, rapid heart rate, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, extreme fatigue and excessive urination, among others. - Ureters
Complications in the ureters can obstruct the flow of urine, resulting in a blockage that prevents urine from passing through the ureters. This can lead to issues, including urinary tract infections or kidney stones. Symptoms of ureter issues include difficulty urinating, pain while urinating, high blood pressure and urinary tract infections. - Urinary bladder
Several urinary bladder issues are common results of bacterial infections, urinary blockages and sexual intercourse. Irritants such as coffee and alcohol can also cause issues in the bladder due to their level of acidity and diuretic qualities. Many people experience urinary bladder disorders in the form of urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence and interstitial cystitis. - Urethra
Common issues affecting the urethra include:- Urethral stricture – narrowing of the urethral opening, which can obstruct urine flow.
- Urethral cancer – a rare condition that occurs more often in men than women.
- Urethritis – inflammation of the urethra, often causing discomfort.
- Pain during urination, blood in the urine, lower abdominal pain, sudden urgency to urinate and a feeling of pressure in the abdomen are some of the symptoms of urethral conditions.
- Male reproductive organs
Several urological conditions can affect the male reproductive system, some of which include enlarged veins in the scrotum, benign prostatic hypertrophy or enlarged prostate glands, erectile dysfunction and infertility.
