The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), the labor union that represents some of our staff members in various departments including environmental services, transportation and our patient care techs, is passing out leaflets outside our hospital today.

This activity is related to contract negotiations between our hospital and the UFCW. We are disappointed that the union has chosen to do this instead of continuing to negotiate in good faith.

We value our relationship with all our employees, and we are committed to resolving the contract negotiations.  We remain focused on our primary mission – providing safe, quality care to our patients.

Saint Vincent Hospital First to Acquire New Technology

Aug 1, 2018

Worcester, MA – August 1, 2018 – Saint Vincent Hospital in Massachusetts is proud to the first hospital to acquire the MitraClip XTR in New England.

doctors working with MitraClipApproximately one in 10 people over the age of 75 in the U.S. alone are living with a leaky heart valve – also known as Mitral Regurgitation (MR). A leaky heart valve is a serious, progressive heart condition in which the flaps of the mitral valve, one of the heart’s four valves, do not close properly, allowing blood to flow backward into the heart, which can cause symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue. Left untreated, a leaky valve can lead to heart failure and death.

The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved a new generation of the MitraClip heart valve repair device (MitraClip XTR) which is now available to treat patients who are not candidates for open-heart surgery. Saint Vincent Hospital now offers this potentially life-saving treatment utilizing the MitraClip XTR. The first MitraClip XTR procedure at the hospital was performed by Dr. Joseph Hannan and Dr. Robert Bojar.

Set up an interview with a member of the Saint Vincent Hospital Cardiology Team to discuss how the MitraClip XTR procedure works and how this medical technology has revolutionized treatment for MR patients with limited other options.
