The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), the labor union that represents some of our staff members in various departments including environmental services, transportation and our patient care techs, is passing out leaflets outside our hospital today.

This activity is related to contract negotiations between our hospital and the UFCW. We are disappointed that the union has chosen to do this instead of continuing to negotiate in good faith.

We value our relationship with all our employees, and we are committed to resolving the contract negotiations.  We remain focused on our primary mission – providing safe, quality care to our patients.

Get ready to renew your Medicaid coverage.

Make sure your contact information is up to date, check your mail for a letter and complete your renewal form (if you get one).

May 26, 2022

Worcester, MA – Saint Vincent Hospital congratulates Dr. Jessica Veulens, Dr. Wayne Glazier, Dr. Robert Blute and Dr. Neil Scannell for winning noteworthy awards at its annual medical staff dinner. Dr. Jessica Veulens received the Up-and-Coming Physician Award. This award is given each year to a physician who is new to practice but has already made a positive impact on Saint Vincent Hospital and the community we serve. Dr. Veulens is an energetic, enthusiastic, and compassionate hospitalist. Her nomination cited her collaborative nature when caring for patients facing complex medical issues and her teaching ability, both of which enabled her to quickly become a valued member of the medical staff.

Dr. Wayne Glazier and Dr. Robert Blute were co-recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is given to remarkable physicians who have made exemplary contributions to Saint Vincent Hospital over a large part of their careers. Dr. Glazier and Dr. Blute received this award because they are the pillars upon which the Saint Vincent Hospital Department of Urology was built. They were nominated because they worked in unison for many decades to make significant contributions to the care of patients in this community. Among their countless noteworthy accomplishments, Dr. Glazier and Dr. Blute are pioneers of advanced urological procedures. For example, Dr. Glazier has a special interest in the field of female incontinence and remains the only urologist in the area who performs the intricate surgery for InterStim pacemakers in women with refractory overactive bladder and urgency urinary incontinence. Dr. Blute was the first surgeon to perform laparoscopic nephrectomy, as well as laparoscopic and robotic radical prostatectomy in Worcester.

Dr. Neil Scannell received the Physician of the Year Award. This award is given to a physician who plays a key role in the successful administration of a department, program or project at Saint Vincent Hospital. Dr. Scannell received this award for his relentless dedication to his patients as well as his focus on advancing medical informatics at Saint Vincent Hospital. Dr. Scannell’s detail-oriented approach to medicine ensures an optimal experience and outcome for each and every patient.

“Congratulations to these outstanding physicians and every member of our medical staff who was nominated for these awards,” said Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Jackson. “They inspire us every day and encourage us to be the best we can be in the pursuit of healing. I know I speak for all of us here at Saint Vincent Hospital when I say that we are honored to call them our colleagues.”

“I'm extremely proud of the doctors who make up the medical staff of Saint Vincent Hospital, but especially the nominees and winners of these three awards,” said Dr. Anthony Izzo, President of the Saint Vincent Hospital Medical Staff. “It's a great honor to be able to recognize them for their contributions to our hospital and our community.”
