Endoscopy

Properly diagnosing your digestive condition often begins with an endoscopy. The Department of Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital offers expert colonoscopy and endoscopy services to pinpoint the cause of your symptoms. These procedures are highly valuable in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive tract problems.

Preparing for Your Endoscopy

Our top priority is making sure that you feel completely prepared for the procedure and can feel comfortable throughout the process. During an endoscopy, an endoscope (a flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it) is used to examine the digestive tract. This can be either through an upper endoscopy, in which the endoscope is passed through the mouth and throat, or a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy, in which the endoscope is passed through the rectum to examine the large intestine.
