What Is Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy?
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a computer-controlled method of treating a tumor while helping to limit damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The IMRT technique gives a radiation dose to the tumor with incredible precision and is able to treat nearly every type of solid tumor. Our linear accelerator for rotational radiation therapy allows us to personalize your radiation therapy treatment with real-time position management and exacting dose output.
Speed and Precision
You can also find shorter treatment times through the use of RapidArc® radiation therapy technology. This technology is able to safely deliver treatment in two to eight times the speed of other radiation therapy techniques and offers increased treatment precision.
Saint Vincent Hospital also provides advanced treatment precision with image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). This technology accounts for patient motion in order to make sure that the radiation target is in position every treatment session. IGRT uses radiographic and computed tomography (CT) scan modes to automatically reposition and stay locked on target. IGRT provides high-resolution, 3-D images to pinpoint tumor sites, adjust patient positioning if necessary and complete treatment within the standard treatment time.
